Puppy's First Groom

Building Trust, Confidence & Healthy Habits

A PUPPY'S FIRST GROOMing experience is more than just a trim, it’s the foundation for a lifetime of positive care. Starting early helps your pup become familiar with the sights, sounds, and smells of the grooming salon, turning what could be a stressful experience into one that feels safe, routine, and rewarding. Early exposure also helps build a trusting bond between your puppy and their groomer, creating a sense of comfort and cooperation that lasts well into adulthood.

Regular puppy grooms every 4 to 6 weeks help maintain a healthy coat, prevent tangles or matting, and allow groomers to monitor skin, ears, and nails for early signs of health concerns

Before your Appointment, a little Preparation goes a long way

  1. Exercise first! A long walk or playtime helps your pup relax.
  2. Salon sniff visits: Stop by to say hi in advance of their  appointment to let your puppy explore the environment.
  3. Practice at home: Touch paws, ears, if you use a hair-dyer we recommend to have them near you when using so they are familiar with the sound, and also take the time to brush them gently to build comfort with handling.

What to Expect from our Groomers

  1. Treats & Praise: We use positive reinforcement to build trust. Bring your pup’s favorite treats if you’d like!
  2. Breaks as needed: Time for water, cuddles, or a reset if your pup feels overwhelmed.
  3. Open communication: Share what works best for your puppy we’ll adapt. Example:  Some respond to Baby Talk and others to a Firm Voice or Addressed by Name.
  4. Comfort from home: A familiar blanket can help your pup feel secure during their visit.
